You are the Temple of the Holy Spirit
You are the Temple of the Holy Spirit
1 Corinthians 3:16-17; Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.
1 Corinthians 6:15-17; Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
2 Corinthians 6:16-18; and what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Therefore, “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.” “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
Ephesians 2:21-22; in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
The First Temple of the Holy Spirit
Genesis 3:8-13; And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” So he said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” Then the man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
God was directly connected to Adam and Eve in the Spirit. The word ‘cool’ in cool of the day is roo’-akh – Strong’s H7307 and it means wind, breath, mind, spirit. God walked with them in the Spirit. Adam and Eve were the first Temple of God, of His Spirit.
The Temple of the Holy Spirit
Temple – Strong’s G3485 – naos – used of the temple at Jerusalem, but only of the sacred edifice (or sanctuary) itself, consisting of the Holy place and the Holy of Holies (in classical Greek it is used of the sanctuary or cell of the temple, where the image of the god was placed which is distinguished from the whole enclosure).
God, in Genesis, created for Himself a dwelling place in the form of Adam and Eve. Due to the disobedience and betrayal of Adam and Eve, God’s Holy Temple was corrupted and no longer fit for His presence. Centuries later God chose to dwell amongst humanity again but knew that His presence must still be at a distance. He appeared before Moses and gave him the plans to create a tabernacle so that He might dwell among His people once again. Later, He had David and Solomon build him a permanent temple that he could inhabit whilst He awaited the great day of salvation when He would once again provide humanity with the means to be His temple once again.
He now chooses to dwell in a temple made of flesh. God has chosen His children to house His presence once again.
