Genetics and CRISPR
Apex Genetics was founded in 1985 in a small laboratory located in a strip mall in Dayton, OH. They quickly grew with numerous contracts from a dozen different countries. Their drought resistant wheat and corn crops being their most valuable asset. By 1995 they had well over 50 contracts with several dozen nations to provide genetically engineered crops. The contracts they obtained were long term with drought stricken and desert locked nations. In 2000 the company was sold to The Orion Group for $250 million. The Orion Board immediately released all C-Level and management employees and brought in their own genetic engineers and managers.
In 2001, after the restructuring, the work shifted to human DNA and mRNA research. Using the CRISPR technique, the engineers discovered many possible treatments for several human diseases and ailments but human trials were not yet legally possible.
Genetics Run Amok
In 2005 The Orion Board, through Apex Genetics, set up an off-books lab in the mountains near Quadane, Mauritania. Between 2005 and 2015 they continued to research human DNA and mRNA modifications. A small group of researchers would regularly trek to a small facility they maintained to the North East. The regular staff was never allowed to interact with them but knew they were not Geneticists or Biologists. Several breakthroughs occurred leading to the possibility of human enhancement and augmentation.
In 2018 all research stopped and all personnel were eliminated. The databases were downloaded and scrubbed and the facility was destroyed. The small outpost to the NE was also eliminated. The small group of researchers who manned that station were recalled to Orion HQ in London.
